A 5 Session programme, every last Sunday of a month 8.30am - 1pm
The Auditorium, 3rd Floor, Asiri Hospital Kandy

The curriculum is presented in 5 sessions

Session 01 – Focus on Prenatal & Pregnancy – Conducted by a Consultant Gynecologist

• Antenatal care
• Navigating a Healthy Pregnancy
• Prenatal screenings and assessments: importance and interpretation of results.
• Personalized consultation, nutrition and exercise for optimal maternal and fatal health.
• Guidance on pregnancy-related concerns and complications
• Discussions on labour and delivery preparation: creating a birth plan.
• Sexual health and family planning, supporting the partner.
• Understanding the stages of pregnancy and physiological changes.
• Common pregnancy concerns and management strategies.

Session 02 – Exploring Newborn Care - Conducted by a Consultant Paediatrician

• Understanding the first hours and days after birth.
• Feeding: establishing breastfeeding or bottle-feeding practices.
• Newborn development: sleep patterns, crying, and milestones.
• Common newborn concerns and when to seek medical attention.
• Building a strong parent-child bond and creating a nurturing environment.
• Vaccination schedule, newborn care, and significant infant milestones
• Early childhood infections, identifying development deficits and other abnormalities.

Session 03 – Practical Demonstrations – Conducted by a Specialized Nursing Sister

• Breastfeeding positions & techniques, newborn bathing techniques, diapering, sleep routines, holding and burping techniques, umbilical cord care, injection site care, etc.

Session 04 – Hospital tour

• Familiarising expecting parents with the birthing facilities and staff at Asiri Hospital Kandy.

Session 05 – Pre and Postnatal Physiotherapy
