Despite being assumed to be a skill that comes effortlessly to mothers, breastfeeding is often quite challenging and overwhelming. So, know that experiencing some challenges in the beginning is very normal.

Should you feel the need to, please come see us directly at our Lactation Management Centre (LMC) on the sixth level (NICU). We are here to assist you around the clock! At the Asiri Central LMC, we have a team of very skilled and knowledgeable experts who specialize in pregnancy and newborn care.

When you visit us…

A skilled nurse will speak with you to learn about the difficulties you are facing nursing your baby. She will offer you advice and address any other queries you might have.

Afterwards, she will support and work with you until you and your child feel at ease with one another and feeding time becomes enjoyable for both of you.

If further assistance or a medical evaluation is needed, a licensed Medical Officer will always be present.

To give you the best medical care possible, input regarding any medical difficulties you may have after your counselling session will be sent to the appropriate paediatrician or neonatologist.

About Breastfeeding

The choice is yours!

It is a highly personal choice to breastfeed. Professionals in medicine strongly recommend breastfeeding a baby exclusively (without the use of formula, juice, or water) for six months, and then continuing to nurse the baby while adding other foods such fruits, vegetables, grains, and proteins for at least a year after that. It is up to you to decide, though, as each mother and child are different. The information below should be helpful to you in making your choice.

Why is breastfeeding important?

During the first six months of life, breastfeeding satisfies your baby's hunger and quenches their thirst while providing all the nutrition they require. It meets your baby's emotional requirements and fosters a relationship of love and trust between you and your child. Your physical proximity, skin-to-skin contact, and eye contact all contribute to your baby's sense of security and bonding.

What are the health benefits of breastmilk for your baby?

• For babies, breast milk offers the best nourishment. It has almost the ideal balance of fat, protein, and vitamins—everything your growing child needs.
• It digests more readily than baby formula.
• Antibodies found in breast milk aid in your baby's resistance to illness and infection while their immune system is still maturing. Even in later life, it is thought to promote immunity against some diseases.
• Breastfeeding reduces the likelihood of allergies or asthma in your child.
• Breastfeeding lowers the risk of obesity even further in later life and increases the likelihood that growing youngsters will acquire the proper amount of weight rather than becoming overweight adults.

What are the health benefits of breastfeeding for the mother?

• It stimulates the production of the hormone oxytocin, which aids in the uterus going back to its pre-pregnancy size and may lessen postpartum haemorrhage.
• Lowers the chance of developing ovarian and breast cancer. You may also have a decreased risk of osteoporosis
• Extends the duration until your next menstrual cycle.
• Breastfeeding increases the burning of calories, which helps accelerate the process of losing pregnancy weight.
• It saves you time and money because you do not need to reheat bottles, sterilize nipples, or purchase and measure formula. It also allows you to spend regular time together in silence, bonding with your newborn.

The following is not included in the package prices:

• Blood and blood products

• The costs associated with visiting specialists (only hospital costs are covered)

• Patients need to decide if they would opt for a ‘Baby Delivery Package’ or a standard admission at the point of admission, as a change will not be accommodated after admission.
• The ‘Baby Delivery Packages’ are heavily discounted, therefore no further discounts such as credit card offers, Amazing Care rewards, etc. can be applied to these prices.
