Aging with Care: Meeting the Needs of Sri Lanka’s Elderly

The United Nations has declared this decade the “Decade of Healthy Aging,” encouraging everyone to focus on the well-being of older adults. By 2040, one in four Sri Lankans will be over 60 years old. As more young people move abroad, many elderly family members are left behind, creating an urgent need for proper care and support for them.

At Asiri Central Hospital, we understand the importance of caring for our elderly population. That’s why we’ve launched a special Senior Care Program to provide the best medical support for older adults in Sri Lanka. This program focuses on giving compassionate, expert care tailored to their unique needs. With a board-certified specialist in geriatric medicine leading and with specially trained doctors and nurses, we ensure that seniors receive the best care that looks after their body, mind, and overall well-being.

Why Holistic Care is Important?

Getting older often comes with health challenges that are different from those faced at younger ages. To address these challenges, seniors need a special kind of care that looks after not just their physical health but also their mental and social well-being. Symptoms in older age can be due to multiple reasons, and that’s why they need a more comprehensive assessment.

Our approach at the Asiri Central Hospital is comprehensive. We help seniors stay independent as long as possible, we aim to identify problems related to olde age early, prevent common health problems from getting worse, focus on improving their overall quality of life, and provide support for their emotional and social needs.

This personalized care is guided by a geriatric specialist who considers the changing needs of each patient, ensuring they receive the best possible support.

A Commitment to Better Elderly Care

At Asiri Central Hospital, we are proud to lead the way in providing exceptional care for Sri Lanka’s elderly population. Our goal is not just to help seniors live longer but to empower them to live happier, healthier, and more active lives.

With our specialized Senior Care Program, we are dedicated to making the journey of aging one filled with dignity, comfort, and joy.
