What is Intrauterine Insemination or IUI?

Intrauterine Insemination a more refined form of artificial insemination is a non-invasive ART procedure. IUI involves placing of sperm through the cervix into the uterine cavity at time of ovulation.

The procedure is simple, easy to perform and does not require extreme effort from the couple.

How does it work?
  • IUI is the first line of treatment, when medication and timed intercourse fails.
  • It is recommended for patients with a mild decrease in sperm count and for those with irregular ovulation.

Generally, IUI is recommended for couples with good ovarian reserve and semen parameters. Associated problems such as PCOS, minimal endometriosis, and borderline sperm counts and motility. For Successful IUI the Fallopian tubes need to function effectively.
